- Magic
(revue pop moderne) (France, June 2002, French)
On issue 62 Lee Hazlewood is listed on the cover as part of this
month's content.
It's a 5 pages interview (2 full page pictures included) based
on the recent double publication by Labels of the hommage CD
'Total Lee' and the CD 'For every solution theres a problem'.
The questions are asked by band members from 'Total Lee' (Richard
Hawley, The Webb Brothers, Tindersticks, Kathryn Williams, Jarvis
Cocker, Autour de Lucie) that Lee swears he had never heard of
and don't-really-give-a-damn about. From this point, it's all
about his career and once again his way of turning it very acid
and a bit provocative on the subject the old 'the booze, the
industry, the money' attitude.
Title: 'Lee Hazlewood, L'école des fans'. This subtitle
is a reference to the pupils paying tribute to the master with
'Total Lee'. 'L'école des fans' could be translated into
'Schools for the fans' and it's the exact title of a very popular
french show from the 80's, with has been french guest stars invited
to a come on up and sing a master's song contest among a bunch
of kids. Every kid is there to sing a song of the 'artist' while
the rest of the family is in the audience and is always nearly
choking with silly pride. It was a Sunday broadcasting.
The pictures: 1. On a full page, Lee with the kids and their
moustaches; 2. Lee now, with a cap and his sunglasses; 3. A picture
you often see of him on the side making a smile with a droopy
face, an open kaki shirt and a quite big golden chain around
the neck.
